The name Mindoro came form 2 Spanish Words; "Mina" and "Oro" which means Mine and Gold or Gold Mine.  History said that the First Trade Capital of the Philippines was in Mindoro; somewhere in the place now called Municipality of Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro. In the early 15th Century, Mindoro Island is a Pirate Haven. . Since the Pirates sunk allot of Traders Ships then, at the bottom of Mindoro's Ocean rests the Gold Mines of the Traders. Thus, the name Mina de Oro was conceived or otherwise known as Mindoro.

  1. Interesting overview of Mindoro especially how the island is split into Occidental and Oriental regions with such distinct geography and history. The origin story of “Mina de Oro” also adds a fascinating historical layer to its identity and trade past. I was reading something similar during a quick lunchtime break, and it’s always engaging to see how place names carry so much history and meaning behind them.
